Review: Fire Study

Book Three of the Study Series (therefore contains spoilers for the previous books)

The apprenticeship is over—now the real test has begun.

When word that Yelena is a Soulfinder—able to capture and release souls—spreads like wildfire, people grow uneasy. Already Yelena's unusual abilities and past have set her apart. As the Council debates Yelena's fate, she receives a disturbing message: a plot is rising against her homeland, led by a murderous sorcerer she has defeated before....

Honor sets Yelena on a path that will test the limits of her skills, and the hope of reuniting with her beloved spurs her onward. Her journey is fraught with allies, enemies, lovers and would-be assassins, each of questionable loyalty. Yelena will have but one chance to prove herself—and save the land she holds dear.

The last book of the Study series was an brilliant and enticing read. From the food tester of the Commander Yelena has become the much feared Soulfinder of Sitian. Her future is undecided and she must face both her past and her future in the stunning conclusion to the Study series.

Snyder has once again proven herself to be a talented writer. Her writing style is easy to read and full of twists and turns. I would have to admit that after finishing all the books in this series, I loved Poison Study the best. The idea of tasting for poisons with a hot assassin looking over your shoulder is simply fantastic and I immensely enjoyed reading it. But that's not to say this book wasn't very, very good.

In Magic Study we got introduced to some new characters while Snyder left most of Posion Study's characters out of the picture. Fire Study is the book that brings them all back together. We've seen how the Ixians act in Sitia and now we have a chance to see how the Sitians view Ixia after all the horrible things they have heard about it. I admit that I was disappointed to find that visit to Ixia mentioned in the blurb takes place further in the book than I had anticipated, but because of Snyder's wonderful plots, I didn't find it that much of a let down.

Yelena's struggle to understand this unique power she has makes this book even more interesting than the normal action books. Moon Man is back and we see some more of his clan and what powers he has. Lief is making up for the lost years by being the annoying but loving brother, who you can't help but adore. Valek makes an appearance again and we see how Yelena and Valek's relationship develops further. A couple of potential problems spotted earlier on in the series are resolved in this book. Ari and Janco are still their funny and charming selves, Janco with his hilarious rhymes and Ari with his big brother nature.

The end was not the 'BAM!' ending I anticipated but it was still a good way to end this series. I would recommend this to those who've read the previous two books and I'd recommend this series to those that love action, magic, mystery and a super hot assassin.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
